Awesome Firefox Extensions
These are the extensions that I use with Firefox. Ahh, extensions. In alphabetical order. If you're curious, you can see what my Firefox window looks like with these all installed.
Also of note are my profile customizations, largely userChrome.css and userContent.css rules.
Click the icons to install, click the names to visit the extension's home page.
-
Install Extension DOM Inspector
Not included with Firefox anymore, so linked here. Firebug takes the cake for most things, but this works on chrome and a few other niche areas. -
Install Extension Download Statusbar
A truly great extension. This replaces (once you set your options properly) the standard Firefox download window, which I find quite clunky. This shrinks it way down, and adds a few great features, like a quick double click to launch/open the file you just downloaded. -
Install Extension Favicon Picker
Choose any icon for your bookmarks. I find it's great for bookmarklets. -
Install Extension File Title
A quick tweak to have the default filename of saved webpages be the title of the page. -
Install Extension FireBug
A truly amazing extesion for client-side web development. Indispensible -
Install Extension Firecookie
An add-in panel for FireBug to show cookies for the current page. -
Install Extension FirePHP
A Firebug plugin that lets you easily route PHP output into the console, great out-of-band debugging information. Especially useful for (i.e.) XML or other structured responses that can't survive with printed information. -
Install Extension Greasemonkey
Allows you to modify web pages on the fly, programmatically. For the advanced user, but can be very useful. -
Install Extension Javascript Debugger (Venkman)
Extremely powerful JavaScript debugger. Unfortunately out of date, but still capable of some things FireBug doesn't handle. Patched to display a different font. -
Install Extension JSONView
Provides a pretty-print, collapsible, view of JSON documents, much like Firefox does by default for XML documents. -
Install Extension Karma Blocker
An ad and annoyance blocker modeled after spam blocker tools. For advanced users. -
Install Extension Magic Password Generator
Magically make custom passwords for each website, based off of a single master password. Also fills in username and email address fields. -
Install Extension Micro Menu
Saves screen real estate by shrinking down the menu bar into a single element. -
Install Extension Open In Browser
When the web site forces you to download a file, this will let you open it right in the browser, without saving it to a file first. Big time saver! -
Install Extension Resurrect
A big news site ruined the server? Can't get to the page? Resurrect it! -
Install Extension SwitchProxy Tool
Like it sounds, a tool to switch which proxy Firefox uses quick and easy. -
Install Extension Tab Control
My own custom, compact, tab-feature-controlling extension. -
Install Extension Uppity
Navigate up one level (directory). It will remove an in-page anchor, the querystring, the file, and the last directory in that order, whichever is first found. -
Install Extension Web Developer
A plethora of simply amazing tools for anyone who does web development work.
Thunderbird Extensions
I also use a few extensions for Thunderbird.
-
Install Extension Allow HTML Temporary
One click to turn on HTML view mode, which will automatically turn back off when viewing a new message. -
Install Extension Minimize To Tray
Does what it says. Simple. -
Install Extension [Un]Read
Useful for controlling view all/view unread filter modes more intuitively. -
Install Extension Virtual Identity
Change your from address on the fly.
